Some jobs ask us to perform. Others quietly ask us to disappear into the role entirely. It can happen so gradually that we don’t notice we’ve started giving our best attention, our deepest energy, and our most human moments to people we’ll never meet, while the life waiting beyond the applause receives whatever is left. Success is a beautiful thing, but only if it still leaves enough of you to return home. Whatever “home” means for you—a place, a person, or simply yourself—it deserves the version of you that no audience will ever see.
