Pink, blue, green, yellow, orange—each one arrived through a different mineral, pressure, temperature, or moment in the stone’s formation. What looks like a single surface is really a record of countless conditions meeting over an immense stretch of time. We tend to imagine stone as plain, fixed, and finished, yet some of it holds more variation than almost anything alive. The Earth has apparently been making abstract art for much longer than we have.
