We often mistake appearance for reality. A landscape that looks barren from a distance can be overflowing with life, just as a person who seems ordinary may contain entire worlds we have never taken the time to see. Many of our conclusions are formed before we arrive, before we look closely, before we become curious. The surprise is not that hidden reservoirs exist. The surprise is how often they were there all along, waiting beyond the limits of our assumptions. And sometimes, like the lagoons that briefly fill these dunes each year, what appears before us is only temporary. Not because it is less real, but because some forms of abundance are meant to be noticed while they are here.
