The happiest moments are the ones that make us forget to look at the clock.
Field Notes
When we speak about “losing track of time,” we’re usually describing moments when we’re most fully alive. Dancing, creating, laughing with a friend, wandering through the woods, watching the rain—none of these experiences ask us to hurry toward the next one. They are complete while they’re happening.
Much of modern life teaches us to treat time like something to save, spend, or manage. But the moments that stay with us rarely feel measured at all. They unfold effortlessly, one movement giving rise to the next, almost as if life itself were dancing.
Perhaps a meaningful life isn’t one where we control time better. Perhaps it’s one where, every now and then, we forget it exists.
