Excitement and fear often feel identical until we discover which direction we’re moving.
Field Notes
At the top of a drop tower, the body prepares for something extraordinary. Hearts race. Palms sweat. Breathing changes. The strange part is that these sensations are nearly identical to the ones we experience when we’re afraid. The body often responds to possibility and danger in much the same way. This can make meaningful opportunities feel surprisingly similar to threats. A new relationship, a big move, a creative risk, an ambitious goal—all can trigger the same physical sensations as fear. Sometimes the challenge is not learning how to eliminate the feeling, but learning to recognize when excitement is wearing fear’s clothing.
