For most of history, people lived with spaces that belonged to everyone and no one at the same time—places where reading, resting, conversation, work, and quiet could exist side by side. Belonging wasn’t created by knowing everyone. It grew from returning to the same room often enough that strangers slowly became familiar. Sometimes the architecture we need isn’t another private home. It’s a shared one.
