What stays alive is often not what holds its shape most rigidly, but what knows how to soften and keep moving.
Field Notes
We are often taught to admire firmness, consistency, and control, as though strength means remaining unchanged. But much of life asks for something else. To be malleable is not to be weak. It is to stay in relationship with what is happening, to adjust without disappearing, to respond without breaking.
There is a kind of wisdom in going with the flow that has nothing to do with passivity. It is an active form of trust. A willingness to curve, to yield, to find a new shape when the old one no longer fits. Sometimes resilience looks less like standing hard against the world and more like learning how to move with it.
