Sometimes a place stays with us long after we’ve left it.
Field Notes
A seashell doesn’t actually hold the sound of the ocean. Its curved interior gently gathers and reshapes the quiet sounds already around us into something that resembles distant waves. Even knowing this, people of every generation still pause to listen. Perhaps that’s because the feeling was never really inside the shell. It was inside us—the remarkable ability to recognize something familiar, and for a moment, be carried somewhere else.
