Even winter makes room for brilliance.
Field Notes
In nature, standing out is not the same as asking for attention. The cardinal’s remarkable color did not evolve to compete with the quiet of winter—it simply belongs within it. Against snow, bare branches, and muted skies, its vibrant plumage reminds us that beauty doesn’t always arrive by changing the world around it. Sometimes it appears by remaining completely itself, allowing contrast to reveal what was there all along.
