From a distance, it is only color and pattern. Up close, every mark becomes its own small place—an opening, an orbit, a gathering of light held inside red.
Perhaps a sense of vastness does not always come from looking out across oceans or into the sky. Sometimes it appears in the smallest surface, when we look long enough to discover that there is more inside it than we first imagined.
