The forest changes when we stop passing through it.
Field Notes
Perhaps forest bathing isn’t about bathing at all. It’s about staying long enough for the feeling of being somewhere to replace the need to be going somewhere else.
We often move through nature the way we move through everything else—with a destination in mind. But the forest has never been in a hurry. It asks nothing from us except our presence. The longer we remain, the more we begin to notice: the changing light, the insects, the movement of leaves, the sound of water, the quiet feeling of belonging to a place instead of simply visiting it.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is enough time for the world to slow us down.
