Before the World Arrives
On some mornings, there is a brief period when the world is already awake, but people are not.
Field Notes
Birds begin before schedules. Water catches the first light before anyone notices. Trees greet the morning without needing to remember what day it is.
For a few quiet moments, the world belongs entirely to itself.
Then engines start. Notifications arrive. Doors open. Plans resume.
Most days, we meet the morning after it has already happened.
But occasionally, we arrive early enough to witness the handoff.
Night loosens its grip. Color returns. The first bird crosses the sky. The water changes from silver to blue.
Nothing is being announced.
Nothing is being performed.
The day is simply beginning, whether anyone is watching or not.
There is something comforting about realizing that the world does not wait for us to wake up in order to continue being beautiful.
