Technology has made distant lives visible. It has not made them nearby.
Field Notes
For most of human history, people were limited to the struggles they could personally witness. Today, images allow distant realities to enter the same room, the same conversation, even the same moment. This expansion of awareness may be one of humanity’s great achievements. Yet visibility can create its own illusion. To see a life is not necessarily to understand it. The distance between observation and experience remains one of the largest distances we ever attempt to cross.
