The ripple is easiest to see far from where it began.
Field Notes
When we stand at the center of something, we assume we understand its shape. But the center is often the place with the least perspective. The drop knows nothing of the distant shore. It cannot see the reflections it will distort, the leaves it will move, or the patterns it will briefly rearrange. Yet the water carries its influence anyway. Perhaps much of life unfolds this way. We release a thought, an action, a piece of ourselves into the world, and its journey continues beyond our field of view. What reaches us is only the small portion that remains close enough to see.
