Sometimes the more living things we make room for, the more fully alive we begin to feel ourselves.
Field Notes
We are often taught to think of care as something that must remain manageable: one animal, a few plants, only as much life as can fit neatly into a routine. But love does not always feel fullest when it is most contained. A home shared with many living things asks us to notice more—to remember the water, refill the bowl, open the window, recognize a new leaf, learn the small preferences of another creature.
Each life adds another rhythm to the room and another direction for our affection to travel. We do not disappear by caring for more. Sometimes we become larger inside: more attentive, more tender, and more awake to how much life there is to live.
