Healing isn’t the destination. It’s what prepares us to return.
Field Notes
There is nothing wrong with seeking places that help us slow down, reconnect, and remember who we are. Rest is necessary. Reflection is necessary. Sometimes stepping away is exactly what allows us to begin again.
But eventually every retreat ends.
The question isn’t how peaceful we became while we were there. It’s what happens when we leave.
Do we carry more patience into our relationships? More courage into difficult conversations? More generosity toward strangers? More attention to the people who need us?
Nature rarely heals for its own sake. Healthy trees shade forests. Rivers nourish valleys. Pollinators leave one flower only to help another.
Perhaps the purpose of healing was never simply to feel better.
Perhaps it was always to become someone who could give more life back to the world.
