A thoughtful gesture tells us something about a person’s behavior, but not necessarily about their character.
Field Notes
Many people know how to perform kindness, attentiveness, and chivalry. Those actions matter, but they cannot tell us whether someone is emotionally safe, honest, or capable of love.
Pay attention not only to what someone does for you, but to who you become around them. A person who opens every door may still leave you feeling unseen, anxious, or small. The deepest evidence of character is often found less in isolated gestures than in the emotional atmosphere they consistently create.
