Sometimes imagination begins by noticing that five insects on a leaf look less like a cluster and more like a dance.
Field Notes
Their colors feel almost invented—small bodies carrying more pattern than seems necessary, moving across an ordinary leaf as though it were a floor made especially for them.
Perhaps imagination does not always create another world from nothing. Sometimes it simply loosens the edges of this one, until a leaf becomes a ballroom and the smallest lives begin to look ceremonial.
