Long before velvet was woven by human hands, flowers had already discovered how to soften light. The surface of a rose petal isn’t smooth—it is covered with microscopic cells that scatter light in every direction, giving it the rich, matte texture we associate with luxury. What feels like craftsmanship is, in this case, biology. Perhaps some of our most beautiful inventions are simply echoes of what the living world imagined first.
