When authority decides the limits of your freedom, what it has given you is permission.
Field Notes
Most systems do not say, You are trapped. They say, You are free, then quietly decide what you may believe, question, say, refuse, or become. Religion calls the boundary truth. A workplace calls it professionalism. Government calls it order. The language changes, but the structure remains the same: you may move as long as you do not move beyond what authority has approved.
The walls are human-made, even when they are presented as sacred, necessary, moral, or natural. Because they are transparent, we may live inside them for years without recognizing them as walls at all. We learn to confuse obedience with choice and permission with freedom. But freedom that disappears the moment we challenge the rules was never freedom. It was only the space authority was willing to give us.
