A fish does not become less itself when its scales shift from silver to blue to pink. The changes do not cancel one another. They belong to the same body.
Perhaps we are not inconsistent for containing tenderness and anger, confidence and doubt, grief and wonder. We are layered, responsive, and alive. Not every part of us is visible from every angle, but none of it makes us less whole.
