Attention can travel where the body cannot.
Field Notes
When we think of freedom, we usually imagine having more space—another exit, another road, another choice. But there is another kind of freedom that asks nothing of our circumstances.
The train does not become less crowded. The noise does not stop. The pressure of the morning rush remains exactly the same.
Only attention moves.
While nearly everyone else is carried by the momentum around them, one person quietly steps somewhere no one else can see. Not by leaving the train, but by leaving the moment they were expected to inhabit.
Perhaps peace is not always found by changing where we are.
Sometimes it begins by choosing where, within ourselves, we are willing to go.
