Some living things appear artificial only because nature has imagined beyond what we expect from it.
Field Notes
This is a Hoya, commonly called a wax plant or porcelain flower. Its blooms can be simultaneously velvety and glossy, with tiny hairs covering the outer star and a smaller, waxlike star rising from its center. Many Hoyas become especially fragrant after dark, opening themselves most fully when their nighttime pollinators are active.
Even more remarkably, the plant can flower repeatedly from the same old stalk. What looks finished is not discarded; it becomes the precise place from which the next cluster grows.
