A person can be surrounded by others and still feel that nothing inside them has been met.
Field Notes
A crowded street can feel emptier than an empty room if no part of us feels seen, understood, or connected to something larger than ourselves.
Perhaps this is why belonging cannot be manufactured through numbers alone. We do not overcome isolation merely by standing closer together. We overcome it when our lives become meaningfully related—to another person, to a shared purpose, to a place, to an idea, or to the living world itself. Until then, it is possible to disappear in the middle of a crowd, unseen not because no one is looking, but because nothing has yet formed a bridge between one inner world and another.
