A fallen log can seem simple from the outside—wood, moss, decay. Yet beneath it exists a dense community of fungi, insects, roots, microbes, and small animals, each connected to the others through countless relationships. Diversity is often hidden by distance. The closer we look, the more complexity we find. Many things in life are like this. People, communities, forests, cultures, even ideas often contain far more variety, interdependence, and life than first appearances suggest.
