One of the easiest places to arrive alone and leave having met someone is a bar. Not because people come for the drink alone, but because they come hoping not to feel alone. Over time, alcohol became the socially accepted reason to start a conversation with a stranger. It’s strange that we’ve learned how to build beautiful places for people to gather, yet so often tied those places to a substance. Imagine if we created more spaces where conversation itself was enough reason to show up.
