The storm never became gentler. She did.
Field Notes
We often imagine peace as something waiting on the other side of our circumstances—as though life will finally become livable once the skies clear.
But the world has never worked that way.
Storms arrive. They pass. Then different storms take their place.
The people who seem most at peace are rarely the ones who have escaped difficult lives. More often, they are the ones who stopped asking the weather to decide whether they could have a quiet mind.
The wind still blows.
The rain still falls.
The waves still rise.
Only their relationship to those things has changed.
Perhaps peace is not something we discover after the storm has ended, but something we practice while it is still raging.
