A magpie is easy to dismiss as just another black bird until the light catches it. Then the surface changes completely. What looked simple reveals blues, greens, violets, and intricate structures that were always there, waiting for the right angle to be seen. It makes me wonder how much of the world appears ordinary not because it lacks beauty, but because we stop looking once we’ve given something a name.
