Some destinations quietly become backgrounds.
Field Notes
Many of us spend years imagining a future that will finally allow us to slow down and enjoy life. We work toward the home, the security, the freedom, the view. But our attention can become so practiced at reaching for what comes next that, when those things finally arrive, they quietly fade into the scenery. The destination changes before the habit does. We may eventually earn everything we hoped for, while never quite learning how to arrive.
