Field Notes
Long before clocks, calendars, or written maps, people looked upward for direction. They noticed that certain groups of stars returned with the seasons, marking when to travel, plant, gather, or prepare for winter. The stars were real. The stories were ours. Together, they helped people remember what the sky had already taught them. The stars did not tell people who they were or what would happen next. They offered something quieter: dependable patterns that returned again and again. Wonder and careful observation were never opposites. Together, they became one of humanity’s first ways of understanding the world.
