The world is always larger than the game we’re playing.
Field Notes
Most of our lives are spent inside finite games.
Auditions. Promotions. Grades. Elections. Followers. Championships. Awards. We accept a set of rules, measure ourselves against other people, and eventually someone wins while someone else loses.
These games aren’t meaningless.
But they are temporary.
The trouble begins when we mistake them for life itself.
We begin believing that losing one role means we’re no longer an actor. Missing one promotion means we’ve fallen behind. Failing one test means we’ve failed ourselves.
But life was never the finite game.
The infinite game is different.
Its purpose isn’t to defeat other players. It’s to become more honest, more curious, more generous, more alive. To keep learning. To keep creating. To keep loving. To keep showing up.
The finite games will always end.
The infinite game asks only one question:
Will you keep playing?
