When one string is played, another may begin to tremble without ever being touched. Its response depends on how it is tuned—on whether something within it is already capable of answering the sound.
Perhaps we are always tuning one another in this way. A person’s fear, calm, tenderness, or cruelty does not remain contained within them; it enters families, rooms, communities, and generations. We may not control every vibration that reaches us, but we can become more aware of what we amplify, what we quiet, and what we send onward.
