Tomorrow, tucked away.
Field Notes
We often notice intelligence when it looks like our own. A hand holding a tool. A problem being solved. A plan carried into the future.
But the world is filled with other forms of knowing.
Beneath each foreleg, the sea otter carries a loose fold of skin that functions as a pocket. A place for food. A place for a favorite stone. A way of bringing tomorrow a little closer.
Perhaps intelligence is not the ability to dominate a world. Perhaps it is the ability to belong to one so completely that you learn where it can hold what you need.
