Love is not only something we direct toward certain people; it is a way of relating to everything alive.
Field Notes
We often imagine love as a private feeling reserved for the few lives closest to us. But perhaps love is an orientation toward the world—a practiced willingness to notice, to be affected, and to refuse the idea that small living things are disposable.
The difficult part of caring is that careless harm becomes difficult to walk past. It asks something of us: to stop, get our hands dirty, and help life continue.
