Sometimes nature makes camouflage so beautiful it becomes impossible to ignore.
Field Notes
A carpet chameleon can carry dozens of colors across a surface made from thousands of tiny scales. Up close, its skin looks less like skin and more like beadwork, embroidery, or a mosaic assembled one impossible piece at a time. What amazes me is that all of this decoration belongs to a living animal simply trying to move through the world. Maybe beauty is not always something added for display. Sometimes it is just the natural result of being completely, strangely yourself.
