A moment can be repeated so carefully that the body learns exactly what to do while attention quietly leaves it.
Field Notes
Rehearsal can make an action smoother, safer, and more convincing, but familiarity does not always deepen experience. Sometimes we become so practiced at anticipating the next movement that we stop encountering the person or moment directly in front of us.
A life can begin to work the same way. We learn our roles, repeat the expected gestures, and move efficiently from one mark to the next—appearing fully present while something in us is already preparing for what comes afterward.
