There is a kind of care that does not crowd, correct, or claim us. It simply makes room: a canopy overhead, a book opened in the lap, enough quiet to hear a thought become your own.
Perhaps this is why reading can feel like re-parenting. We are allowed to wander, question, and grow while something steady remains nearby—not directing who we must become, only giving us a safe place from which to become.
