The Whole Field Was Blinking
Even with the world getting brighter, some lights still know where to find the dark.
Field Notes
Most evenings, nothing remarkable appears to happen.
The grasses bend.
The wind moves through.
The last warmth of the day settles into the earth.
Then, if you remain a little longer, the field begins introducing itself.
A flash.
Then another somewhere else.
Then darkness again.
What first appeared empty slowly reveals itself to be full.
Not because anything changed, but because your attention did.
The field was alive long before it was noticed.
And perhaps that is true of many things.
Some lights are not trying to be the brightest thing in the landscape.
They are simply looking for a place where their glow still matters.
