The Path Beyond Winter
Every season of life feels permanent while we’re inside it.
Field Notes
A curious thing happens when we look backward on our lives.
Experiences that once felt like separate worlds begin to collapse into a single landscape.
There was the season of becoming. The season of belonging. The season of loss. The season of certainty. The season of confusion. The season of waiting. The season of beginning again.
While we are living them, each feels absolute. We assume the way things are is the way things will continue to be.
But from a distance, they reveal themselves as passages.
A spring eventually becomes a summer. A summer becomes an autumn. An autumn becomes a winter. And what felt like an ending becomes visible as a transition into something else.
Perhaps wisdom is not learning how to remain in a particular season.
Perhaps wisdom is learning that no season was ever meant to be permanent.
The path does not resist the changing landscape around it. It simply continues.
Through abundance and scarcity.
Through growth and decline.
Through arrival and departure.
The traveler keeps walking, and the world keeps changing.
What appears, from one vantage point, to be the end of the journey is often only the point where the path disappears from view.
The path itself was never ending.
Only our ability to see beyond the next season.
